Two major UK retailers have slashed the price of the Xbox One and its best exclusive by £50, although it’s unclear for how long.
The Titanfall bundle includes the Xbox One console and a copy of Titanfall, and is usually supposed to go for £399.99. That was already a very generous deal considering the Xbox One alone was originally supposed to cost £429.
But at the moment both Amazon.co.uk and Asda Direct are selling the hardware bundle for just £349.99. How long it’ll stay at the price is unknown, but it’s unlikely to be for long. Especially as other retailers have dropped the price by the same amount before, but only for a day or two.
Although the price cut to £400 in February was welcome, the £350 price point is key because it’s the same as the PlayStation 4.
Although the Xbox One has sold well since launch it’s been outpaced by the PlayStation 4 in all major territories, even the US. Currently estimates put its global total at just over 4 million, compared to almost 7 million for the PlayStation 4.
The price is seen as a major reason for this, but there’s no indication at the moment that it will officially drop to £350. To do so would probably mean removing Kinect from the basic bundle, which is likely to be a U-turn too far for Microsoft.
As to why Amazon and Asda have chosen now to make an unofficial price cut it may have something to do with the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall being released today, which has turned out to be surprisingly similar to the Xbox One version.
