As expected
Well, my fears have been confirmed. Battlefield Hardline is as terrible as most thought it was going to be. I know it is only a beta, but even so it is shockingly devoid of anything to do.
Battlefield should be about warfare, not cops and robbers. The premise is silly.
As for the game modes in the beta, Heist kept me entertained for about 15 minutes, but the map is too small and the teams weren’t big enough. Hotwire is possibly the most pointless game mode I have ever played. Just driving around, slowly at that. Awful collision detection. Battlefield’s vehicle controls aren’t suited to quick driving.
I’m very disappointed, but can’t say I am surprised.

Odd one out
I was delighted to get a PlayStation 4 during the Black Friday sales at the end of last year – only had to knock out a couple of grannies to get to the front of the queue – and get up to date with all that next gen-only gaming goodness.
First up was The Last of Us Remastered – a great cross-gen title. Then there’s Alien Isolation. Yes, another great cross-gen release. A quick scour of all the other titles I own reveals a common trend: Wolfenstein: The New Order, Far Cry 4, Destiny, Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor, Metro Redux, Watch Dogs, GTA V, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, and Driveclub.
That’s right, they’re all great games, except Driveclub, which is rubbish.

Transform and punch out
Seeing Rise Of The Robots being mentioned made me wonder, why hasn’t there been a Transformers fighting game?
There’s a large roster of characters who frequently fight each other. The transformations could be used freely or restricted to super moves, depending on how well the fighting can accommodate a car or jet zooming around. Who wouldn’t want to assemble Menasor as a finishing move to punch Wheelie?
Instead of alternative colours, the characters could have their different generational designs. Somebody should give Capcom the chance to make this game.

GC: The only Transformers fighting game released in the West was Beast Wars Transmetals, which was awful. There was also a Japanese-only sister title on the Game Boy Color game, but we’ve never played it. G1 Optimus Prime and Megatron were in Konami’s Smash Bros. knock-off DreamMix TV World Fighters but that was Japanese-only as well. And rubbish.

New sound
My Turtle Beach DP11 Gaming Headset are in need of replacing and I was hoping GC or a reader could recommend a decent, preferably wired, surround sound pair for £100 or less, that will work with both PS4 and Xbox One (I don’t own the latter yet, but do plan on buying one in the future).
All recommendations welcome, including wireless. Thanks.

GC: We’re far from experts on this sort of thing, but we’re sure a reader is.
One stick control
Thanks to your Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D review GC, I am now more stoked than ever for this game. Your review didn’t mention anything about how it handles on the New 3DS though, is this because there is no major differences?
I had thought (but may have imagined this) that Eiji Aonuma made references to there being New 3DS features for this game?!

GC: It does use the C Stick, which we described in our preview. But the original game already worked without needing a second analogue stick, so we never really used it much. Although it works perfectly well at controlling the camera.
Undead hope
Really enjoying my Wii U that I picked up in January. Am I right in thinking that there were a few ZombiU download codes being given away recently by the wonderful GC faithful? I vaguely recall you asking GCers to write in with answers to questions, etc. So I suspect I may be too late.
Anyway, if there were any still kicking around can you keep me in mind? I’m happy to answer any questions as long as there not about ZombiU, cause I haven’t played it yet.

GC: We don’t remember anyone giving away a whole game like that, they’d have to be very generous if they did.
Horse’s mouth
I don’t think the person you interviewed said £,1000 literally as in you needed a £1,000 rig to play The Witcher 3 on max. You will only need a £750 rig to do that, which is still very expensive but not £1,000. My PC is using AMD hardware and costs about £600, and it’s handling games very well.
I also used to think that gaming PCs were £1,000 but after building one myself I’ve realised that that’s not true at all. My dad just built one for £400 (which obviously can’t handle Witcher on maximum settings but is still a very good PC, and just goes to show that not all gaming PCs are much more expensive than consoles).

GC: This is what he said: ‘So, the PC, that’s the nature of the format – it’s scalable up, but let’s ask ourselves: how many people have the rig that is like six times the price of a console? Not that many.’ Six times £400 is £2,400. We’re sure that was only a rough estimate but he clearly wasn’t implying less than £1,000.

Expensive option
I can’t believe how many of my friends are currently playing Dying Light. Don’t they understand that if we gamers buy into a system where digital versions are released early, it’s a big thumbs up to publishers that that’s OK? Haven’t you all noticed the extortionate prices of digital content? You all really must have more money than sense.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m as guilty as anyone when it comes to pre-orders and season passes, but I’ve learned a hard lesson after being ‘burned’ a few times. I mean, I was one of the idiots who pre-ordered Aliens: Colonial Marines on the strength of its misleading trailer, and I was also guilty of purchasing the Destiny season pass because I foolishly thought it would contain the missing story content, rather than the ‘yet more tedious grinding’ it actually turned out to be.
As a result I’ve decided that I’ll never buy a game again without reading several reviews beforehand, nor buy another season pass unless I know exactly what it contains. However, because I’ve already read several Dying Light reviews, and having also liked Dead Island, I’ve decided that I will buy it when the disc version is released, but let’s do the maths here for all those gamers who have already downloaded it.
The digital version of Dying Light costs £55 on PSN with another £16 for the season pass, totalling £71. The disc version bought from Amazon costs £45 and includes the season pass as an exclusive bonus. So you’re basically getting the game for £29. Now let’s say that in a few months time you’ve played the game to death and decide to resell it for around £20, that equates to just paying just £9 for the game.
So there you go. Would you rather pay £55 for something that’s never really yours and cannot be re-sold, or do you want the same experience for around £9? It’s a no-brainer isn’t it?

RE: Samus it ever was. Great Talking Heads reference! Who cares if you love Nintendo and hate everything else (ahem) as long as you remind me to listen to music that good?!

PS: Wolfenstein on PlayStation 4 is excellent.
GC: We didn’t like Wolfenstein, it wasn’t by Nintendo.
Picture: thought this was pretty good….

This week’s Hot Topic
The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was inspired by reader StalinsEpicTash, who asks what’s the worst section in a good game you’ve ever played?
It can be a whole level, a boss battle, a story cut scene, or just a small section of a larger stage or open world; but we want to know exactly what went wrong and why it seemed so out of place compared to the rest of the game. Was it a mistake the game kept making or did it seem even more out of place because the rest of the game wasn’t like that?
How much did it affect your opinion of the game as a whole and how much better do you think the game would’ve been without it? Do you think a game can still be considered a classic even with such problems and how tolerant are you of drops in quality if the overall experience is good?
