A reader reminisces about the glory day of video game arcades and how he’s discovered a similar experience with online communities.
Growing up in the market town of Darlington, with my teenage years taking place in the ’90s, there were surprisingly no shortage of opportunities to play coin-operated arcade games. There were two prominent independent games outlets in Darlington (Topsoft and Chips) which at different times had coin-ops, as well as a little known arcade hidden above a cafe in the town centre. Additionally, family trips out to local seaside towns promised a plethora of gaming options and new sights to see.
