We’re assuming that’s the grumpy dwarf leader in the middle?

The next Lego tie-in game will be based on The Hobbit movie trilogy, according to an advert in the back of a toy’s instruction book.

It might not be the most surprising news you’ll ever read but it now seems definite that there will be a Lego The Hobbit video game.

Although it always seemed inevitable after The Lord Of The Rings games the above image is apparently on the back of instruction books shipping with The Hobbit Lego sets due out next year.

Lego website The Brick Fan broke the news, which has yet to be confirmed by publisher Warner Bros. The advert doesn’t give much away but claims the game will be out next year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and 3DS.

There’s nothing more we can discern from the image (other than it’s presumably Canadian, given the French text) but the big question is whether this will use the same technology as games such as Lego Marvel or whether it will feature all-Lego backgrounds like the new Lego Movie tie-in.

It’s hard to guess really as although backgrounds made entirely out of Lego bricks have been a long requested feature they’re no doubt really difficult to do, and we’ll have to wait and see whether developer TT Games uses them for anything other than the movie game.

Although our interview with the Lego Marvel producer did hint that that was the eventual plan.
